Remarks on board Bark Solon Atlantic Ocean

Saturday October 11th 1862
Commences wtih squally weather from all quarters. During the day had a stark calm until 4 pm when we had a squall from SE with Thunder & Lightening.

Sunday Oct 12th
Commences with fine weather. And moderate wind from various quarters. Steering S. During the middle part had a rain squall from the W and Ends with fine weather.

Monday Oct 13th
Had moderate wind from S. Steering WSW and ESE. The wind varying all the time. Four months outs and we have not seen a Sperm Whale. How different form last voyage. Then we had 400 Bbls of Sperm oil when we were 4 mos out. Such is life. Then up & Now down. I think that our turn will come around soon.

Tuesday Oct 14th
Had light airs and calms. Employed at work on the Rigging. Commenced ratting down the Fore Rigging. Lowered for Black fish with our usual success.
