Had strong winds from W.S.W. Last night in choosing watches we had a fight as our crew all together and a and a hard-looking set they are, and I find that we have Abraham Lincoln and Jeff Davis among our crew, so I suppose that the war must end before a great while as the two leaders are on board of the Bark Solon.
We are endeavoring to get the boats ready for Whaling, but the Solon is so much like a bathing tub that it is impossible to work, it is hard work to find a place on her where one can keep dry.

Commences with a brisk wind and ends with a strong gale. “Poor Dixie” he is not well over his sea sickness yet, sometimes I wish that I had not brought him with me, for he comes to me and begs to be taken up, and if he can only be in my arms he appears quite contented. He has slept in my room nights so far. It makes me awful homesick every time I caress him for I think of the one that caressed him the morning I sailed.

Sunday June 15th
Had a gale and the old Solon is rolling and tumbling about at a great rate. There are plenty of long faces aboard of her today. Some of us would give something to be at home today. We must keep up Brave Hearts, and hope for the best, 18 months will soon pass.
